Firing up the grill at high noon. Music starts shortly thereafter. Come out and dance, eat, have fun and freak out, but be prepared - you WILL be BBQ’d.
For more info/any questions contact Daniel Parshall at firstname.lastname@example.org
We had a great week with Such Gold and we can’t thank everyone enough - the bands that played with us, the promoters, the venues, everyone who attended - THANK YOU! Not only were the shows a blast, but we ate burritos literally every day. That’s a new record for Slingshot Dakota. WE DID IT!
Anyways, we have more shows coming up! We are playing this Friday at The College of New Jersey with Eisley! Then on Saturday we are headlining Pi Lam’s Human BBQ in Philly. We’re also playing with Spraynard at the end of May. Here’s the info:
FRIDAY APRIL 4 @ 5PM w/Eisley
The Rathskeller @ TCNJ
2000 Pennington Road
Ewing, NJ 08628
Sup fake spring? We’re ready to rock your face and help melt faces AND snow. So come hang out tomorrow with us, Iron Chic, Timeshares, Martin and Crybaby! First Unitarian Church in Philly. Doors are 6pm, show at 6:30. YES.
It’s been a cold start to the new year but that’s not slowing us down one bit. Tom has his first show with his new band Fog Cult at the Funhouse this friday if you’re in the mood for some stoner rock. For real, it’s going to be amazing.
Besides Tom’s other band, Slingshot has started writing our new album. Two solid songs written, many more to go! But, we are extremely excited about releasing a fun album and can’t wait to continue the writing process! We have a few shows coming up, and a few more we can’t announce yet ;) Here’s some info!
Instead of throwing together our individual “Top Ten” lists, I (tom) decided to throw together a list of stuff that Carly and I bump in the van while on tour. While I do most of the driving, I get to play mostly whatever I want (much to Carly’s disappointment - haha), so to make this interesting, I have attempted to put together a list of stuff that we both love and keeps us going on the long highways and shitty traffic.
(***items in bold are 2013 releases)
1. PODCASTS - We LOOOOVE podcasts! Our favorite of the year is Duncan Trussell’s two-part interview with his mom… seriously, listen to it- it will change your life. Other ‘casts we love: This American Life, Fresh Air, Doug Loves Movies, WTF? w/ Marc Maron, The Nerdist, and Stuff You Should Know.
2. SILENCE - This is a new thing for us in 2013… long drives with no radio and no talking. It feels great to process your thoughts while taking in the changing landscape.
3. RiFF RAFF - “Birth of an Icon” and “Hologram Panda” - No joke, Mr. Highroller is our boy. Can’t wait for “The Neon Icon” to drop in 2014!
4. Wye Oak - “Civilian” - Soooooooooo goooooooood! I was late to the game and finally found out that they broke up. UGH.
5. Chairlift - “Something” - Caroline Polachek has the most wonderful voice ever.
6. Cloakroom - “Infinity” - This is probably Slingshot’s record of the year for 2013. Such a gorgeous album that is so simple, yet so crushingly beautiful. We saw them play at I Got Brains Fest and I cried my eyes out.
7. Tancred - “s/t” - We love Jess to death… like that kind when you hug someone so tight, they can’t breathe and you’re clenching your teeth so much that they might crack. This record owns. Also, she used to have a band called Kids’ Fiction, and we played the hell out of that EP as well… try and find it on the Google machine!!!
8. Midlake - “The Trials of Van Occupanther” - Just listen to the first song, “Roscoe”… it is one of my favorite songs of all time.
9. Pearl Jam - everything - Yes, we fully back PJ… I feel sorry for all the haters.
10. Fleetwood Mac - “Rumours” & “Greatest Hits” - Turn it up and drive into the sunset!
Others that got steady play - Purity Ring, Lil B, Iron & Wine, Mansions, Metric, Now Now, Pinback, Smashing Pumpkins, Tigers Jaw, Title Fight, Wye Oak, 1994!
We just want to take the time to thank all of our friends for making 2013 a wonderful year for us. We calculated that we toured for 5 months this year.. the longest amount of touring we’ve done as a band.. and we couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you to all of our friends and supporters who value what we do. Thank you to Topshelf Records, Greg Horbal, TWIAB, Koji, Title Fight, Cruel Hand, Balance and Composure, Owen, Allison Weiss, Frameworks, Duck Little Brother, Into It. Over It., Static Age and the countless other amazing musicians we’ve had the honor of touring and/or performing with. Thank you to all of the festivals, such as Bled Fest and Fest, for having us as part of your roster. Thank you to our friends who came out to see us play, housed us after shows, and to our awesome roadies that had to eat taco bell for days. We play music because we love it. This is not a career move, as both of us work part-time in restaurants and record stores when we’re home, but we love it so much that we make it work. We can’t thank you all enough for helping us do what we love, even if it meant just giving our music a listen on the internet. Thank you from the very bottom of our hearts for making this year possible. We love you so much!
We’ll be playing a Girls Rock benefit show on January 10th, 2014 in Bethlehem, PA. Details will be coming soon. Other than that, we are going to focus on writing the new record and also starting another band. We’ll be in show hibernation until the Great Emo Revival of 2013 blows over, but should you want to pull us out, you can write us at email@example.com for show inquiries.
Thank you and we wish you a happy near year full of love, light and endless happiness.
Sup ya’ll? Tom and I are married now. Married life is pretty cool. We just got done touring with Title Fight, Balance & Composure, and Cruel Hand, and that was hands down the best tour we’ve ever done in our lives. It’s honestly the best thing in the world when the bands you listen to all of the time are incredible, down to earth people. So, thanks to all of those bands for being wonderful individuals who also happen to be the most amazing musicians as well!
We are touring down to Fest with Prawn for 2 days! Here is the info! We hope to see you all there if you’re not at Fest already :)
We are playing at 8 seconds on Sunday November 3rd at the Knapsack show! I believe our set time is 5 pm and then the AMAZING HOP ALONG PLAYS RIGHT AFTER US! ahhh!
Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us on our recent tour. We seriously had the bar set low in terms of anyone checking us out, and you all exceeded our expectations! Thank you for your love and we hope to see you on our lil’ trip down to Gainesville!
Oh, hey! We are going on a magnificent little run with Allison Weiss! To make it an even sweeter deal, our best friend Chrissy is coming with us, and she’ll be doing hair wraps. WHAT?! A ROADIE THAT DOES HAIR WRAPS? Yes. So, get your hair done and come to these shows. Tom will have 200 hair wraps by the end.
Do what you love and stop caring what people think VS. real life
So whenever we go on tour, I get into the (terrible) habit of checking twitter. Are kids having fun at our shows? Do they like us? Are they in love with our roadie? How freaking awesome was Owen on this tour? But, as the curious search goes, I find the not-so-into Slingshot tweets. And, honestly, I get it. Kids love the internet, they love being anonymous, or not. I honestly do not love every band, every song and every genre. It’s human nature! And, it’s totally fine. But, I find it so weird that people write either mean things about bands they don’t like, or in one case, constantly write about the band they DON’T LIKE. It’s just counter productive maybe? Do they want me to write back with happy faces, because I will! Are they really into our band, and want to advertise us subconsciously? I used to say I hated the Power Rangers when I was a tween, but I really liked them. I was called out by my sister who said “If you really hated the Power Rangers, why are you watching the movie?”
Point taken, sis. Point taken. I guess what I’m trying to say is, say what you want.Tweet what you want. But it’s just weird when you don’t like a band, you write about them on the internet for them to see. I guess it’s no different from hating on celebrities. Maybe they’re like me, searching the internet for positive things. But, truth be told, you won’t really find positivity on the internet.
Life lesson to Carly: Get off the internet, do what you love. If I don’t like everything everyone does, they don’t have to love what I do. But, DO consider that every mean thing that you write on the internet exists and that energy is put into the universe whether or not that person sees it. And, it is free advertising for that person, so thank you? Poor Amanda Bynes is going through something bigger than anyone could ever relate to, but that girl is getting more PR than she got when she filmed “She’s The Man.” Which I absolutely admit I loved.
This tour with Owen has been magical so far! Mike is a total sweetheart with a beautiful voice and we are so honored to be a part of his show! Today we got a box of fresh donuts from Paddy Cake in Pittsburgh and we are on our way to Richmond! It’s nice to have a mix of venue/DIY shows because it means not loading in all of my amps all of the time and Tom says he doesn’t have to hit his drums as hard. But I don’t think that’s true.
Anyways, here are the remaining days of tour! Tonight, Greenville, murrells inlet and atlanta are sans Owen.
6/19/13 Richmond, VA @ Church of Abraham (without Owen)
We just got home at 5 AM thanks to super driver Tom Patterson <3 Thank you to everyone who made this full US two month tour so much fun. Thank you to anyone and everyone who watched us perform, especially in new cities like Midland TX, Albuquerque NM, Spokane WA, Huntington WV, Indy IN.. the list really goes on! Thanks to Greg for booking most of the tour, and allowing us to practice harder instead of living life on the internet, making sure the shows got taken care of. Thank you to those who housed us, fed us, gave us any kind of love and support along the way, and thank you to all who were part of all of the shows! Your hard work did not go unnoticed and we appreciate every single thing.
Extra special thanks to Koji, Frameworks, Football Etc, Duck Little Brother and Taking Meds for accompanying us on this sweet journey!
Music is our love and our life, and we are so happy to share that with you all!
